Bio:

K. O’Neill is a "20-something" Puerto Rican artist from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Using the female form and specific songs as inspiration, O’Neill works primarily in acrylics and focuses on bold usage of color to vividly capture emotion. Many K. O'Neill pieces are named after individual songs by various vocal artists, not restricted to one body or genre of music. O’Neill is currently based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has exhibited works in multiple venues across the Mid-Atlantic/Northeastern region as well as in her home state of Florida.

Statement:

My artwork takes an abstract view of social/cultural issues that I have experienced. In my work, I deconstruct the female form and what it means to be a woman- with many pieces revolving around the female gaze and its ability to capture a moment or emotion, as well as taboo topics I believe relate to women internationally. My work depicts the fine line between sensuality and vulnerability (and learning to walk that tightrope) as a young woman, as well as tackles my own dealings with post-traumatic stress disorder and the constant search for inner peace I feel like I've been chasing for eons. These themes are often tied together by the color blue- with shades as vivid as their respective emotion(s), feelings I hope to evoke in my audience. The color blue is often associated with feelings of calmness and peace, but I utilize it more to emphasize depth both in hue and in form.
